UK SNOW ALERT ISSUED – Heavy, Significant Snowfall Expected on Friday

An Atlantic front is expected to head into the cold air currently in situ across the British Isles & Ireland on Friday, as it does so it’s likely some of the rain will turn to snow. Initially it’s looking like snow will fall to lower levels on Friday afternoon across northern England, especially the North East, and parts of Scotland, however it’s an ever changing forecast as the event is still a couple of days away. As the precipitation heads into Ireland and Wales earlier on Friday, it’s likely snow will be restricted to mostly places above 1,000ft of elevation, however as it heads into mainland England & Scotland, there’s a lot of uncertainty about the snow level. Indications suggest a period of heavy wet snow is likely to lower levels with some slushy accumulation, however to higher ground across northern England & Scotland, some very poor conditions are likely later on Friday with heavy, settling snow likely however
