An unsettled phase of weather is forecast across the United Kingdom this week, although post-tropical storm Helene will be bringing up some quite warm air for central and southern areas, it will be cool in the north. Heavy rain is likely on Monday evening in the north west and through much of the week.

We are monitoring Wednesday and Thursday closely for the risk of a second storm, this time from the Atlantic, for the risk of intense rain and severe gales. Some forecast models suggest wind speeds of over 90mph are possible in places, especially in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Northern England, however the strong winds could potentially affect areas further south as well.

Heavy rain is also likely, in fact places like Cumbria, and western counties in general could see up to 6 inches of rain by the end of the week, enough to cause concerns for flooding however.
