The rain has badly affected this area of the North West today. Flood alerts are currently in force for rivers in Stockport, Altrincham and Poynton and their associated rivers. Please do not drive through a “road closed” sign as it puts others in danger and can create large traffic jams.

More Travel Reports: The heavy rain is now affecting more of the North of England. Severe rainfall is currently affecting the M62 between Leeds and Manchester with surface water issues and a large volume of standing water in nearby roads. Over 30mm has fallen in this area in just an hour, that amount of rainfall is more than enough to produce some severe flooding between Manchester and Leeds.

Parts of Huddersfield, Halifax and Oldham have seen flooding more recently. Roads in and around this area are quite tricky at the moment. The situation is getting pretty dire in West Yorkshire, flood sirens are going off in Waldsden and Todmorden currently.

Rainfall is expected to continue on and off for these areas tonight! Especially to the North of Manchester, for the remainder of tonight, even into the early hours. With grounds very saturated, and more rainfall in the forecast, river levels will remain high for the remainder of this evening, only slowly dropping into tomorrow. Take extra care when travelling tonight with these high river levels.

Attention now turns to Tuesday. Unfortunately, more heavy showers are in the forecast on Tuesday, affecting areas that have been affected today. So one to keep a close eye on if you have been impacted by the floods / heavy rain today.
