Early Snow warning issued for the South on Wednesday

The UK Met Office have issued an early (in advance) weather warning for southern Britain including South Wales & most of Southern England, bar some coastal strips. This early warning is valid from 10:00AM Wednesday 30th December until 06:00AM Thursday 31st December.

The following excerpt was taken directly from the Met Office website.

“A small chance of disruption from snow and ice.”

What to expect

  • There is a slight chance that bus and train services may be delayed or cancelled, with some road closures and longer journey times
  • There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel
  • A slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • A small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces

Our forecasts, here at Severe Weather Updates, also suggest that some snowfall is possible in the south later on Wednesday and into Thursday. Where, or exactly how much, is quite uncertain at present. Parts of the West Country & also the home counties may be at risk from some fairly significant snow, perhaps up to 10cm locally. No further details can be given and the areas discussed here are subject to change in the coming day.
