Potentially Severe UK Wind Storm to end the week

Once tomorrow is out of the way. eyes are then on the weekend, for no more than the *potential* for a very powerful wind storm. The GFS and ECMWF weather models are predicting a violent storm to move up from the south west and affect much of the UK on Sunday. Wind gusts could be well over 80mph with sustained winds of 50mph. This is only a potential as it stands however the impacts from this would be very significant given that trees are still in full leaf. Our weather charts are indicating the potential for a very severe storm:

Given the wind direction, storm surge is also a very real risk on the east coast.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, is forecast to be a very gusty day across the country with very disruptive winds in Central Scotland – 80mph possible. Something of a lull on Thursday before it turns gusty again on Thursday night and Friday. Then all eyes are on the weekend for the potential for a very serious weather event. We have to be cautious more than a few days ahead, especially with storms as computer models have a habit of over doing wind speeds – however the risk is real as the charts are building consistency now.
