This weekend so far has been characterized by severe weather for much of the central southern U.S. states.
Tornado Watches are currently in force for the North Western Florida Panhandle, Alabama, South East Mississippi and parts of central Tennessee. Some Severe Thunderstorm Watches are also active in this area. Current weather radar (via NOAA):
The current radar shows the location of the severe weather right now – aligned in a “squall” like feature. This feature is producing severe thunderstorms, with a risk of isolated tornado activity and very large hail. Even if tornadoes don’t occur in one particular area, some serious straight line winds are possible.
The affect of these straight line winds were felt in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, today, as around 30 train cars were blown off the tracks due to the severe winds.

At present it is unknown if there have been any casualties as a result of this incident. There are reports of other derail events across the area. Heading into this evening, there’s a further risk of severe weather as the outbreak is ongoing. Pay close attention to local advisories from NOAA or similar.
Only travel if absolutely necessary within the warning zones. These warnings remain valid until 4pm CST, however could be extended.
