New Chinese strain of Flu virus with “pandemic potential” found in China

A new strain of flu virus, currently named “G4 EA H1N1” has been discovered in China. Information on this virus was posted by the CDC earlier this year.

The virus is documented to currently be affecting animals (i.e. pigs) in China, however researchers in the area state that it has “all the hallmarks” of being adaptable to human tissue. It is currently thought to be able to grow and multiply in the human airways.

Prof Kin-Chow Chang and other scientists, e.g. Professor James Wood of Cambridge University, states that the work on other viruses comes as a reminder that we are constantly battling with new viruses, and new potential threats.
