Homes evacuated as Major Wildfire hits Surrey

A significant wildfire event is currently ongoing in the county of Surrey. Around 120 homes have been evacuated and can not return, after the blaze became increasingly expansive today.

During hot weather, moorlands and the countryside in the UK are at an increased risk of wildfire development. A stark example includes the 2018 wildfire in Saddleworth, Yorkshire/ Greater Manchester.

The Surrey Wildfire developed yesterday, and was seen over 10 miles away. It continued to develop through last night and during today, however firecrews are working hard to cool the blaze.
