The past 24 hours saw a severe thunderstorm outbreak across North Wales and North West England. During the day, parts of mid Wales experienced surface water flooding. Later, counties Flinshire and Merseyside were badly affected between 11pm Monday and 2am Tuesday, with flooding and large hail reported.
Heading into today, some sporadic thunderstorms are possible which may produce locally severe conditions. These could crop up just about anywhere with some hail, gusty winds and lightning possible.
Tomorrow, however, is when there’s a more significant thunderstorm outbreak risk. Many computer models are now starting to show some quite concerning data output for this time frame, with slow moving powerful thunderstorms modeled for central and southern parts of the UK. It’s difficult to say exactly where these will form – only an indication can be given from forecasters are to the high risk areas.
At present much of England & Wales is at risk from this storm development through Wednesday and to some extent Thursday to. The M4 corridor up to the Severn Estuary, the West Country and South Wales looks highly at risk later on Wednesday for some severe thunderstorm conditions.
