A magnitude 3 earthquake sends shockwaves that are rarely felt by people. Earthquakes in the UK do occur, due to ancient seismic faults present in the area, or even due to fracking. However, these events are usually relatively weak and insignificant. The last large earthquake was in Lincolnshire in February 2008 at a magnitude 5.2 and caused some minor damage to the area including a collapsed chimney.
