Good afternoon. It’s looking increasingly likely that the weather will take a (major) turn for the worst this Friday and into the weekend. Low pressure looks to be in control, producing some spells of heavy rain and strong winds. It will feel more like October than late August.
Some of the weather model output, at this early stage, is quite “concerning” for Friday. Some output produces wind speeds of 60 or even 70mph for some exposed western coasts and hills, with gusts between 50 and 60mph inland. Given the time of the year, e.g. because trees are in full leaf, this may have more significant impacts than normal.
At present Friday looks like it could be the peak of the event, which could become a named storm if it meets the criteria from the UK Met/ Irish Met Office. The strong winds & spells of heavy rain, perhaps becoming more showery in nature, will likely last into the weekend. This could bring further disruption. Whilst no official weather warnings have been issued yet, it is important to give everyone a heads up on this system. It could become quite nasty.
