Storm Bella is expected to affect the UK with extremely distubed conditions on Boxing day, this lasting into Sunday 27th December 2020 for some places to.
Following a very settled Christmas Day, Boxing Day will become wild across southern UK with a very active storm system. Very strong winds are likely throughout Britain, however, gusts of 70, perhaps even locally 80mph across southern coastal parts of England & Wales. These are unusual winds for this area, and therefore the Met Office have been prompted to issue an “Amber” weather warning for both Boxing Day & Sunday 27th for a large swathe of Southern England and South Wales.
The following chart shows where the strongest winds are likely to be according to the ICON DWD model. Use the scale bar to find out how strong the forecast winds are for a particular location. As you can see, deep red colours are likely widely however some parts of Southern England, in fact usually widely across this area see wind gusts of 80mph, that is very high. Significant impacts to travel are likely, and there is the potential for structural damage / flying debris in some areas.
Heavy rainfall will be an additional issue with this storm. Whilst the totals on face value may not be extraordinary, ranging from 10 to 40mm across most areas, given that many have already seen flooding recently the ground is very saturated and these lesser amounts will have just as much an impact. Keep an eye on any additional warnings that may appear.
