Peak District “Packed” with visitors as more Heavy Snow forecast

The Peak District is currently “Packed” with visitors as more heavy snow is forecast. The following image from the Cat and Fiddle pub shows cars currently crammed around the Cat and Fiddle pub.

The news follows after vehicles were trapped yesterday in the Goyt Valley. Initially the conditions permitted the vehicles to travel to the area, however after the snow came down many were find unable to navigate the steep gradients with snow on the ground. As a result, many local volunteers and police have had to rescue the residents from the snow. Please always remember to be responsible.

The news comes after several local news sites and local authorities such as Buxton Weather Websites, Severe Weather Updates and governmental sources such as the council & Met Office warned that conditions would be difficult in the Peak District during Saturday. Still, tourists flocked to the area making local roads more difficult and increasing the risk of accidents.

On one local road, the A5004 “Long Hill” which stretches between Whaley Bridge and Buxton, there is a turn off to the Goyt Valley. Here, there are two reservoirs with car spaces. It is here that roads are very steep on exit – and here where there have been trapped tourists this evening. The police and local volunteers are assisting people to get out of the valley.
