Severe Flooding hits parts of England

Very Heavy rainfall during today (19th December 2019) across Southern England has produced some flooding. Cornwall has been worst affected, with some parts badly flooded today. This includes the town of Hayle, which is badly affected by flooding. Parts of the A30 are in a poor state.

Unfortunately more wet weather is in the forecast. The Met Office have several rain warnings in force right up until Sunday for Southern England. Some southern counties of England could see up to 75mm, that’s 3″, of rainfall in the next few days. That’s enough to produce some river and surface water flooding in places.

Do keep a close eye on further warnings in the coming days.

Christmas Outlook

On the run up to Christmas, i.e. this week and the weekend, more heavy rainfall is expected. Especially so for parts of Scotland and the South, here is where we’re expecting rainfall totals to be highest. However, largely across England & Wales totals will near 25mm (1 inch), so be aware of the risk of some surface water flooding in places. During next week, most computer models are suggesting that conditions should begin to improve. A little colder, yes, but also potentially a bit drier. Both the GFS & ECM computer models are forecasting an increasing influence from high pressure around Christmas. This should allow for some drier conditions.
