UK beaches left in dire state after visitors drop tonnes of litter

Beaches across the UK, including Blackpool (North West England), Brighton, and Bournemouth (South coast) have been left in an appalling state after people dropped tonnes of litter. (Images, Reuters/ MEN)

The news comes as people flock to beaches during an exceptional UK heatwave. Many have also criticized the large numbers of people whom flocked to beaches, saying that this activity is increasing the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

Beach goers are likely to be met with fines of £150 on the spot if caught dropping litter. Why would anyone want to spoil both our environment and the beauty of sea side resorts?
