First Snow Forecast as Arctic Plunge to affect the UK next week

It’s time time of year again during which we are approaching winter, it’s chilly at times, but not particularly so. Later next week could bring us a taste of what’s to come over the next 4 months (winter), with a significant northerly plunge sweeping Arctic origin air right across the UK, it will feel raw.

The UK, somewhere in the middle, flooded by cold Arctic air (blue) by next Saturday (27th). ,/span>

Given that the air mass is forecast to be just so cold, there is a risk of some hill snow in the far north and north east of the UK. This would be in the form of showers. Although it is very unlikely that low ground areas will see anything significant bar a few flakes or some sleet, the highlands could see their first quite significant fall of snow of the season. It isn’t out of the question that we could see a sprinkling of snow on the more southern mountain ranges in Northern England, Northern Ireland and Snowdonia.

Needless to say, it will still be colder than average by this time next week to all other areas who wont pick up the snowfall. And it will also be dry with not much in the way of rain. Definitely a colder outlook later next week compared to recent weeks however.
