A particularly nasty system is going to develop in the next 24 to 36 hours and produce very strong winds across the UK through Friday afternoon and evening. The rush hour on Friday could be particularly nasty and quite disruptive across south western Britain with South West England, parts of the south coast and Irish Sea Coasts bearing the brunt of the severe gales, before the strong winds transfer into the mainland later on Friday evening, giving us all a spell of wet and windy weather.
Heavy Rain (Flood Risk).
There could be over 50mm (2 inches) of rain through Friday evening across western parts of the country including Wales, South West England, Cumbria, South Western Scotland, and potentially central Scotland. There will also be some heavy rain elsewhere through England with 1-2 inches quite widely, something to be aware of if travelling late on Friday, especially in flood-risk areas.
Severe Gale Force Winds.
Widely winds will gust over 50mph or so; giving some challening travelling conditions especially on exposed roads and vehicleways. The storm will affect Ireland and South West England early on Friday; through the morning and early afternoon, before affecting the rest of England and Wales (including the south coast) later in the afternoon and into the evening. Although strong 40-50mph winds will be widespread, the worst of the winds will affect southern Ireland, SW England, Wales and Irish Sea Coastal areas. The South Coast could also be badly affected with gusts surging over 75mph locally. This could lead to quite widespread travel disruption, which could be severe. Stay safe and heed warnings.
