A plume of warm / hot air is expected to arrive this weekend, lifting temperatures to the high twenties Celsius in southern parts of the country:
So far this year, bar a warm spell around Easter in April, we have been deprived of any real Summer warmth. However, confidence is now growing for the first Summery spell of the year so far. The GFS (Global forecast system) weather model is predicting temperatures of 27C near the Capital this Sunday, however it usually underestimates temperatures by a degree or so, implying that 28C or 29C is likely, if we get lengthy sunny spells.
Not all of us will enjoy the warmth though, it will gradually become cooler out west with temperatures for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland if anything below average, in stark contrast, where there will also be some rain.
It’s worth mentioning also that as we progress through Sunday, increased instability in the atmosphere may give way to thunderstorms. It’s still a few days away so this may change, however there is a growing risk for a thundery break down, among the heat on Sunday!
