Storm Brendan Declared – Severe Gales forecast on Monday

Storm Brendan is packing a punch in western Britain. Wind speeds of between 70 and 80mph are currently being recorded across many western coasts and hills. The following map shows the current intensity of the wind across the UK and Ireland, notice the reds over Ireland and western Scotland indicative of severe gale force winds. It’s windy elsewhere to, with gusts of 40-50mph across England and Wales.

Some travel disruption has also occurred. Specifically, a trampoline was spotted causing issues on the M7 in Limerick, Ireland. Michael Finnan captured the following footage of such trampoline from Storm Brendan. It remains unknown whether this has been cleared as of yet, any further updates will be posted here. Clearly, however, only 2 lanes have been blocked, so traffic is still moving along slowly.

Many bridges in Scotland & Ireland are currently closed to high sided vehicles due to strong winds. These strong winds are expected to continue for the rest of the day, with gusts of 70 to 80mph likely to continue in the west.

Met Office warnings are currently in force for many western parts of the UK. During this afternoon, some of these strong winds will head further east, bringing a pretty windy and wet rush hour for much of England and Wales.

Further issues with strong winds are likely during Tuesday afternoon and evening to, as a second area of low pressure makes progress into the UK. This time, however, the strong winds are likely to be across England and Wales, with gusts between 50 and 60mph likely inland, perhaps up to 70mph around coasts. Some travel disruption is also possible, with the potential for quite a nasty rush hour tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. Saying that, this evening’s rush hour will also be quite tricky with very strong gusts around.
