Conditions are deteriorating in the north of England and northern Midlands with several flood warnings issued from the Environment Agency. Hardest hit today so far has been South Yorkshire and Derbyshire with numerous reports of flooding after 20-60mm of rain has fallen widely and it’s expected to get worse tonight.
Further pulses of heavy rain are expected across the Midlands and Northern England this evening and whilst the concern further south is wind as storm Bronagh arrives overnight – further north flooding could be a big problem tonight and unfortunately some properties are likely to be flooded out.
Thankfully tomorrow does look drier compared with today with just a few showers in the north west – but more storm activity is looming for the south this weekend, with high tides combining with heavy winds to produce the risk of a storm surge. Find out more on that here.
If you are travelling in the midlands, northern England or Wales tonight, remain vigilant and aware that you may encounter flooding from burst rivers. The risk remains there tomorrow as the rivers continue to drain. However Saturday and Sunday look VERY wet indeed for the already flood affected regions and we could be looking at another 2 to 4 inches of rain however.
