Second Winter Storm with Snow Sunday night Through Wednesday

Forecast detail:

Intense cold is with us right now across many portions of the North and East United States and eastern Canada with temperatures some 10-20F below average, whereas further west temperatures are not as cold into the West, and central and western Canada. This is thanks to an El Nino pattern, which has been predicted for Winter 2018-2019. You can find more about our winter 2018-19 weather forecast right here. One more cold day is forecast for the NE tomorrow before a switch to less cold conditions this weekend. Heavy rain will affect much of the Mid West and Mid Atlantic on Saturday before affecting the North East Saturday evening into Sunday. Behind it clearer weather but temperatures will quickly drop off into Monday.

This is where we have the potential for a winter storm. There is still significant uncertainty regarding the forecast, so check back with local providers and us in the coming few days. However there is good agreement within the computer model output that some sort of “Snow/Rain storm” could affect the Mid West, North East, Ontario and Quebec on Sunday night, into Monday AM in the Mid West, and Monday through Tuesday in the North East and into Eastern Canada. It is unclear as to which areas will be worst affected, and where the Snow/Rain border will be, however there could be some negative impacts and hazardous conditions in the areas highlighted below. As there are still a few days between now and the forecast system, there could be changes to this in the next few days.

Although this system is more likely to fall as rain on coastal counties as well as I95 cities, in land there could be some significant snowfall, especially north west of Albany, and later on Monday night through Tuesday and through Wednesday morning, there could be some heavy lake effect snow showers for the great lakes, these could give 6-10 inches of accumulation in localized parts of say Michigan. Stay safe!
