In the coming few days low pressure is going to “get stuck” across the British Isles. This means we can expect some fairly changeable weather, with rain at times. Tuesday looks like it could be a particularly unsettled day, with heavy and prolonged showers affecting parts of the UK, as such the Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for western parts of Britain.
Before we get there though, there has been a fair amount of rain already in parts of North Western England, the North Midlands, and there are various Environment Agency flood alerts / warnings still in force with further outbreaks of rain expected here for the rest of the day. See https://flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings flood alerts
for more information.
This rain should steadily clear tonight, leaving most of us with a decent day for Monday. Some sunny spells for central areas, and feeling pleasantly warm. Some residual rain for Scotland though. Later in the day cloud and rain will gather in the south west, as well as some unseasonably windy conditions. On Tuesday winds could gust as high as 50mph on the south coast, coupled with outbreaks of rain, it will feel rather like October.
Tuesday’s downpours
Those downpours could well become quite prolonged and intense across south western areas on Tuesday. Western areas look most prone to these downpours, especially for South West England, Wales, the West Midlands, and parts of Northern England, especially the North West. Some places could see 50mm of rain within the space of a couple of hours, giving a real risk of surface water and river flooding.
As such, the Met Office has issued an early yellow warning for these downpours, for Tuesday as described. Some thunder & lightning is possible from these downpours, especially in the afternoon for parts of the Midlands, Wales and Northern England. They will be localized, so some places could see a lot of rain
