Two die in Kent as Storm Dennis affects the UK

Sadly 2 bodies have been recovered from Kent, near the Herne Bay area, today (15th February 2020).

The bodies were recovered in the water near RNLI Margate, Kent, following distress calls during the early hours of Saturday.

It is advised to stay away from not just the waters, but also the coast today and tomorrow. This is because particularly high and rough seas do pose a danger to life, and also that waves can rapidly and abruptly extend inland inwards at the beach.

Storm Dennis is continuing to affect the UK, and gusts of 85mph have been recorded already in North Wales, at Capel Curig in Snowdonia, with gusts widely between 45 and 60mph for inland parts of England and Wales.

Various Amber rainfall warnings have been issued for the UK, by the Met Office, up to 100mm of rainfall may fall in places leading to a high risk of river and surface water flooding. Heavy outbreaks of rain associated with a weather front are set to continue tonight meaning the risk of flooding if anything increases overnight and into tomorrow, with the hills of Wales, England and Southern Scotland particularly at risk.
