Severe flooding hits parts of Manchester, Cheshire and the North Midlands

Flooding is currently affecting parts of Greater Manchester and the North Midlands due to relentless rainfall today. Some areas have recorded upwards of 50mm (2 inches) of rain, and some rivers in the area are nearing record levels. The Macclesfield & Buxton area has been particularly hard hit, with some roads now impassible. For example, the A6 south of Buxton is currently closed, with a few other routes now impassible.
